Spotify

Every Spotify artist page leads with one number: monthly listeners. It is the figure artists quote, labels watch, and fans screenshot. It is also the one number the official API does not give you.

What the official API asks of you

A registered app, a client ID and secret, and a client credentials token that expires every hour. That part is routine. The artist endpoint then returns a follower total, a genre list, and a popularity score from 0 to 100, a relative ranking Spotify computes and does not explain.

Monthly listeners are not in the response, and no endpoint offers them. Developers have asked for years. If that is the number you need, the official API cannot help.

What Metrika gives you for Spotify

Send an artist id and get back the datapoints we hold for it: follower count and monthly listeners, both exact. The identifier is the 22-character id from the artist URL, so open.spotify.com/artist/4Z8W4fKeB5YxbusRsdQVPb is 4Z8W4fKeB5YxbusRsdQVPb.

bash
$ curl -X POST https://metrika.run/api/v1/resources/search \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"resources": [{"platform": "spotify", "type": "account", "identifier": "4Z8W4fKeB5YxbusRsdQVPb"}]}'

Both numbers come back under metrics. Monthly listeners use the common views datapoint name and carry a semantic field of monthly listeners, so your interface can label it the way Spotify does while your code keys on one schema.

The same request shape everywhere

Spotify is one of many platforms Metrika supports, alongside Instagram, X, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, Bluesky, GitHub, Twitch, Kick, Telegram, Snapchat, Pinterest, Discord, Reddit, and SoundCloud. The request you write here is the request you write for all of them, and that matters because an artist's audience is spread out. The same musician has a SoundCloud profile, a YouTube channel, and an Instagram account, and the useful view is all of them side by side. One token, one response shape, up to ten resources in a single call, mixing platforms freely.

What Metrika is not

Metrika is read-only and public-only. It covers artists, not songs, albums, playlists, or podcasts, and it will not report play counts, streams by country, or anything from Spotify for Artists. If you need that, look to the official API or to Spotify's own artist tools.
